The Absolute BEST & WORST Thing About Cervical Dystonia

The WORST thing about Cervical Dystonia is that it can: 

  • cause you to feel like a stranger in your own body, 
  • cause you to doubt your own body’s ability to heal or be well, 
  • cause you to dissociate from the parts of your body that are involved such as the head, neck, and shoulders, 
  • create doubt in knowing what’s best for your well being and this may cause you to put more trust in a provider or expert than in your own intuition, 
  • create an emotional roller coaster of strong emotions such as anger, frustration, depression, anxiety, & fear to name a few and this can lead to social isolation and over time your world becomes very small and extremely limited, 
  • cause you to feel all alone and you begin to fixate on this false belief that this is just the way it will be for the rest of your life. 

The BEST thing about Cervical Dystonia is the opportunity that it provides for an individual to do the deep inner work of learning how to best support the mind, the body, and the spirit so that all parts of you are working together, in unison, not in opposition. 

Even if you know the tricks to work the magic that support your mental, emotional, physical and spiritual aspects it can still be a rocky road to travel with Cervical Dystonia in tow. 

The ONLY regret I have on this Cervical Dystonia journey is that I did not raise my hand sooner to ask for HELP and to share my experience.

Instead of raising my hand, I hid in shame, disgust, anxiety, and fear for 5 minutes too long and that just perpetuated the suffering (mental/emotional/physical).

I am making up for that now by teaching others on a similar journey what I have learned to ensure the journey is far more fun, less painful, and supportive than before. 

In order to do that, it requires vulnerability and the courage to say yes to you and your best version of yourself with this thing we call Cervical Dystonia. 

You can’t control the fact that you have it, but you can control the meaning that it has in your life. 

As a gentle reminder, it behooves you to be discerning about who and what you allow into your energy field. Do yourself a favor and be intentional about the circles you run in and the types of things you take in with your senses as all of it absolutely impacts your well being. 

If you feel icky after being in the presence of others or after reading or listening to something or someone, that’s a clear sign you may want to limit your exposure to it.
